Dan Sullivan was born and raised in Maine, studying in Minnesota before moving to Chicago in 1997.

After years working in both the trades and the arts, Dan began his own business in 2005, working primarily as a general contractor. Using his experience and contacts in the trades, Dan founded Navillus Woodworks to focus on custom fabrication.

Navillus Woodworks has done custom commision-based work for museums, institutions, art galleries as well as architects, designers, and homeowners. With his wife, conceptual artist Edra Soto, he has collaborated on sculptural pieces that have been exhibited widely in venues including the MCA Chicago, Perez Art Museum Miami, and Hunter East Harlem Gallery. Soto and Sullivan have been commissioned to design a large scale installation work for Chicago Transit Authority, with plans to complete in early 2019.

Navillus WoodWorks is a member of the Dock 6 Collective, a partnership of independent designers, furniture-makers, and fabricators that advocates for itself as a group, delivering well crafted, thoughtfully made products to architects, interior designers, retailers, contractors, and the public. Located in Chicago's Belmont-Cragin neighborhood, Dock 6 is also a hub for the Chicago creative community, fostering a forum for open dialogue between artists and designers.
